Managing Director
Anna Lee Tonkovich
Dr. Tonkovich is a dynamic, innovative, pragmatic, and focused technologist who builds on scientific innovation to develop commercial technology. She holds 152 issued US patents across diverse technology platforms with 31 years of industrial experience. Lee was the recipient of two R&D100 Awards.
Lee is adept at innovative problem solving with a keen balance of economics and technical feasibility. As a founding member, Lee invented the Velocys microchannel technology platform and developed the technology from concept, scientific discovery, detailed engineering, manufacturing development and commercial technical and economic viability. Lee’s team delivered hardware to fulfill the sale of Velocys’ first commercial Fischer-Tropsch reactor for its biofuels platform. She has extensive experience in compact synthesis gas production from a variety of feedstocks.
After developing the Velocys technology, Lee applied innovative technology development at Heliae. Lee’s team developed a scale-up reactor platform to enable Heliae’s first commercial algae production facility for Astaxanthin. She provided technical and executive leadership for a second commercial product, including an algal strain, bioreactor design, and growth process to produce agriscience biostimulant products now launched under the PhycoTerra brand.
Lee left Heliae in 2014 to launch her own venture (Tonkomo) which provides expert technological problem solving, development, scale-up, and commercialization skills to the chemical and biotechnology industries. Advancer of plant-based foods and products.
